About Us

The School has been serving the community since 1960 offering high quality education of not only the German language, but also the rich history and traditions of the German culture.

The German Language School began as an off-shoot of the Donauschwaben German American Cultural Club in 1960.  We added a branch in Novelty in the EOUV Club in March 2017.  The German Language School Cleveland became an independent entity in October 2022.

The German Language School Cleveland teaches the German language to children and adults in a cultural setting within a supportive classroom environment. Our curriculum, textbooks, and methods are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Assessments, formal and informal, are a regular part of classes. We offer National German Exams (sponsored by the AATG), levels 1, 2, 3, and 4, for students and adults. We also offer preparation classes for various exams and high school credit options.

Our teachers participate in annual continued education classes.  The majority of our staff are native speakers, the balance have degrees in German and are licensed teachers.
